Dog Rescued From House Fire By Volunteer Firefighter On Her First Fire Run

A Volunteer Firefighters first fire run is more than likely a memorable one as Franklin Township firefighter Jen Dyke experienced her first run this past weekend and it certainly will be a very memorable one for her and others involved. After arriving on the scene of a fully engulfed 2 story house fire on Three Locks Road over the weekend she learned that firefighters had thought they seen a dog still underneath parts of the house. After working the fire for while and during a short break Jen went to the house and called for the dog. After a couple minutes she saw movement beside the porch and though was warned the dog may bite from being scared, she approach the dog anyway and got him away from the structure to safety.

Jen explained, "I yelled, "here puppy, here puppy. come on baby" for a few minutes and finally saw movement in between the porch and an object beside the porch. I walked towards it and kept talking to it. I knew it was scared, but I saw his tail wagging. I was warned to stay away from him, but I was in full gear. I didn't care if it tried to attack me. I was going to save it. I grabbed him and he licked my face. I pet it for a second and ran up the hill. I said, "thank you Jesus for letting me save this life." I feel like this was the same as saving a human. Pet owner, Emily Lambert thanked me many times. My Chief, Mike Menendez told me how proud he was. If it weren't for him and others on my department, I'd never be where I am today in the Fire/EMS community." The dog is 3 months old.

Also the pets owner is looking for him to go to a good home as well after the fire. Any inquiries or can give it a good home can be sent to jlizmustang@gmail.com

Jen went back today and met with the dog's current owner and to visit "Hoss", pictured here
